The 8TV CHAR8TY Drive

PETALING JAYA, 2nd December 2011 – 8TV was all set for its 8TV Char8ty Drive - an initiative in conjunction with 8TV’s 8th Anniversary celebration, where the likes of our 8TV celebrities, its staff and 9 lucky fans, joined in a day of service at the Selangor handicapped and mentally retarded Children’s Centre, in Ampang Jaya, Selangor.

Ms. Susila, who runs the home, explained to everyone that very few of the residents at the home have family or friends who come to visit – most of them were not only suffering from physically and mentally challenges but also the deprivation of love. Each day, the 32 disabled residents aged 7 – 47; exemplify the very meaning of humility - they remind us to be thankful.

In appreciation for the 8 successful and still growing years 8TV has experienced, the 8TV Char8ty Drive marked a small and humble step of 8TV’s efforts in giving back to society. The 8TV Char8ty Drive that took place on Thursday, 1st of December 2011 proved to be a meaningful event when it left the volunteers, participants and the residents of the home with big smiles on their faces. 8TV Celebrities, Prem Shanker, Megan Tan, Razif Hashim, Gary Yap Choon Kean, Lee Sze Ping, Hoon Mei Sim, Baki Zainal and Dennis Gan was also there to have lunch, mingle and share laughs with the residents of the home.

Lunch for the residents and workers of the home was sponsored by KFC Holdings (KFC). It’s amazing how generous some people are in terms of their contributions, either in the form of goods, time or both! Apart from that, donations of groceries, cash, toys and other items by Media Prima staff during the pre - 8TV Char8ty Drive, that ran from the 21st November till 26th November 2011, 8TV also presented the home with an array of food supplies, mattresses, mattress covers, medical and grooming supplies as well as clothes.

“Being here with these kids, is really an eye opener for all of us. It reminds me in particular to be thankful for the blessings we have. Our 8TV 8th Anniversary is a very special celebration for us and we want to share the joy of it with others too. This is just one of our simple steps initiated to make a difference” says Group General Manager of 8TV and ntv7 Ms. Airin Zainul. Airin added “You never know how just a simple act of sharing food, or throwing a ball can brighten up the lives of these people.”
