Premiering first on Asian TV, 8TV’s latest Best of The East slot will be featuring “JOURNEY TO THE WEST”, which will begin airing on 3rd January 2012. One of China’s greatest literary classics, “JOURNEY TO THE WEST” is a household legend and myth throughout East Asia, especially China, and among Chinese throughout the world. It is also an instant classic in China and praised as the best and most authentic interpretation of the novel.

“JOURNEY TO THE WEST” which depicts the story of Monk Tang and his three disciples going west to seek for Buddhist Sutra, is renowned as one of the four classical novels in China led by the irreverent but capable Monkey King "Sun Wukong", together with Pigsy and Sandy. The story of his journey is a brilliant parable on the journey to enlightenment, while at the same time a story of great humor and exciting action. It also provides fascinating insight into the history and traditional culture of China.

The basic story is about a young monk in the era of Tang Dynasty set foot westward to fetch Buddhism Cannons back to China to reestablish Buddhism fate. From help of Goddess of Mercy (Guan Yim), he gained three disciples and a white horse, which was originally a dragon prince. Together, they braved various dangers throughout the long journey that took over a decade. Journey to the West is probably the most well-known tale amongst Chinese folk and the world over.
